Drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons. To regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly.
You don’t even need to deep dive into Google that far before a plethora of articles appear on topics of water and hydration. This one from Health Direct is particularly informative: Drinking Water and Your Health.
Being well-hydrated improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.
A lesson you have instilled when raised in the Northern Territory, one of the hottest and most humid of places to live in Australia, is the importance of keeping hydrated. It’s a simple way of living…if you don’t drink water, you end up heat stressed, fainting or worse – in hospital. This was me in my teens before I figured a few things out with my own health and wellness.
I moved to Sydney in my 20s with the same ‘Territory girl’ philosophy, and didn’t appreciate my upbringing until I started meeting people, long term big city dwellers, that didn’t like drinking water. This was so foreign to me as I’ve always loved drinking tap/still water (averaging 2L per day for as long as I can remember and 3-4L when I was pregnant).
If a healthy inside and functioning organs doesn’t appeal, here are three of my favourite water infused recipes to make your hydration more bearable:
+ Strawberry, Mint & Lime
+ Orange & Mint
+ Lemon & Mint
And…enjoy!
